Book, Music, and Lyrics by Jonathan Brielle
HIMSELF AND NORA opened Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre, in May, 2016 starring Matt Bogart (Jersey Boys), Whitney Bashor (The Bridges of Madison County), Zachary Prince(Honeymoon in Vegas), Lianne Marie Dobbs (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn) and Michael McCormick (Chaplin) .
This bawdy, funny, uplifting, and melodic new musical, sings the contemporary love story of James Joyce, the brilliant and hard drinking Irish novelist, and Nora Barnacle, the earthy uneducated woman who became his lover, partner, and muse for 37 years. Their love survived exile from Ireland, the condemnation of the Catholic Church, and ultimately helped to create some of the greatest writing of the 20th century.
"...a robust romantic musical... The enjoyable score by Mr. Brielle, a veteran composer... meshes neatly with his libretto and embraces a rhythmic variety of ardent and melodic songs..." – New York Times
